Zhang is grabbed at a parking garage and chloroformed with a white cloth. Her captors carry her OTS/over the shoulder into their car, then take her to a condemned building. She is sat on the floor, hands tied behind her back against a pipe onscreen with black rope, and feet left unbound. Later, she is given a very prolonged handgag after trying to scream, then gagged with a massive strip of silver duct tape (which is so large that it extends past her chin). Not much struggling or mmpphhing from her, but she looks very helpless.

She makes two escape attempts, but is recaptured each time. The climactic sequence occurs at a seaside pier, where a protagonist who has been looking for her shows up with an incapacitated hospital patient, inside an ambulance, for a hostage exchange. Zhang is let free to walk over to her rescuer, hands now duct taped behind her back and a bomb strapped to her abdomen. She is ungagged and her hands untaped onscreen in the final scene.
