[REVIEW] Alison King – Coronation Street

Jun 1, 2010 | Soap Operas | 0 comments

Feisty factory owner Carla Connor (Alison King) is surprised at gunpoint in her office by a man pretending to be a potential client. When the scene continues, she is bound to an office chair; her hands are tied behind it with white rope, and she is then gagged onscreen (and mid-speech) with a strip of duct tape. In a nice touch, her captor tells her to scream so as to test the gag, prompting an angry mmpphh.

After he leaves the building, she begins struggling and mmpphhing some more. Factory worker Hayley Cropper is later lured into the factory, upon which she notices Carla mmpphhing to try and warn her. Too late, for Hayley gets a handgag. When they are next shown, Hayley is being tied to another office chair. Carla (still bound and gagged) gets wheeled in front of her, and we get an excellent close-up of Carla’s gagged face looking bemusedly at Hayley.

Carla’s husband Tony Gordon, earlier presumed to be dead, reveals himself to be behind the plot. He rips the tape off her mouth and cracks a joke about there being “at least three layers of fake tan” on the strip. The scene ends with both damsels looking at each other with apprehension.
